Treatment Options
Chemotherapy
In most cases, chemotherapy is used as a background cancer therapy. Apart from successful management of the side effects of chemotherapy, the specialists at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center have learned to effectively prevent many such side effects.
Chemotherapy sessions, lasting from several minutes to several hours, are usually delivered on an outpatient basis. If the treatment regimen requires longer sessions, they can be completed either in hospital or at home, using stationary IV infusion devices.
Targeted (Biological) Therapies
“Targeted therapies” are the most innovative cancer therapies. They use drugs and medications to identify and attack specific targets – molecules or molecular mechanisms intrinsic to cancer cells.
Targeted therapies have been successfully applied by the specialists at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center. They usually cause much fewer side effects than chemotherapy. Biotherapy is often delivered concurrently with chemotherapy.
Supportive Therapies
The Oncology Department team believe that every patient deserves personal and nurturing attention, with their unique individual needs catered for.
Supportive therapies are an integral part of cancer treatment. They are delivered by a multidisciplinary team, consisting of oncologists and physicians from other specialties (gastroenterologists, pain syndrome specialists, etc.). Within a wider category of “supportive therapies,” there may be procedures that help manage the side effects caused by cancer therapy (such as nausea and vomiting), and treat various cancer symptoms. Supportive therapies may also include pain syndrome management, nutrition consulting, anemia treatment, etc.
